Kikori March Social and Emotional Learning Calendar
Updated: Aug 26
The Kikori SEL Calendar is here to help you move through March with exactly what your students need: a balance between growth mindset and joy!
March is our mid-point during Spring Semester and brings challenges through testing as well as the opportunity to rest during Spring Break. Kikori's activities this month are designed to help your students practice grit and determination that they can then apply in their tests, along with mindfulness practices to help them refocus and re-energize.
March also gives us so many reasons to celebrate! March is Women's Month, with International Women's Day being celebrated on March 8th. It is also Social Work Month and a personal favorite - National Sauce Month!
Our March eSEL Calendar provides you with daily experiential social emotional learning (eSEL) activities accessed via the Kikori platform that you can lead with your students.
Here’s what that looks like:
Start your day with a Morning Message or Advisory Announcement
Practice those ever-important social skills with Greeting Activity
Encourage connection with a Sharing or Acknowledging Activity
Facilitate an interactive National Day Activity (i.e. Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day, National Ice Cream Day, World Kindness Day, etc.)
Flex essential muscles with our Day-of-the-Week Activities for Mindful Monday, Together Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday and Fun Friday
BONUS: Looking to help your students build critical social emotional skills? Each of Kikori's activities are aligned to CASEL's Social Emotional Learning standards, 21st Century Skills and Sustainable Development Skills!

What is happening with our students in March?
Testing and spring break can have both positive and negative effects on students in March:
Testing can create stress for our students, but it can also give them a chance to be challenged and put their grit into practice.
High-stakes tests such as standardized assessments or final exams can lead to heightened levels of stress and anxiety among students, due to pressure to perform. Practice mindfulness activities with your students every Wellness Wednesday this month, with videos by Marilyn Levin!
Test preparation can disrupt regular classroom routines and instructional time. Build in a steady Morning Meeting and Circle Time to help with a sense of structure!
Testing can also provide valuable opportunities for students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. The goal of these tests is for you to be able to assess where your students are at and provide targeted support. Build in goal-setting activities to help your students reflect and grow!
Spring Break can be a much-needed break or a difficult week away from the safety and connection that school brings for some students.
Spring break offers students a break from the demands of schoolwork. Help your students understand the value of this opportunity to rest and recharge - and how that sets the brain up for future learning!
Some families are able to travel - and some families are not. Be thoughtful with your questioning around Spring Break plans. For example, ask what students will do to relax, rather than where they are going.
The interruption to the school routine during spring break can pose challenges for students. Be prepared for this on the day students come back from Spring Break, ready to re-establish routines and help students feel cared for as soon as they walk in the door!
Utilizing Kikori's eSEL Calendar will provide you with activities to support building relationships, stress management and communication that can help create a supportive and engaging learning environment for students during this month!

How does Kikori ensure these activities build social emotional skills like self-awareness and relationship skills?
Each activity provides you with instructions that follow Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle. This means the activities help youth actively engage and then provides reflection questions related to the activity.
These questions help youth reflect and build self- and social-awareness (what happened during the activity?), make meaningful connections to their own lives (how did what happened during the activity connect to other experiences?), and engage in personal growth (what are they going to take from this activity into their lives?)
