The October eSEL Calendar
Updated: Oct 9, 2023
October is here and as the colors on the leaves are changing, our students’ true colors are starting to appear as well! How can we help them show up as their best selves? By facilitating experiences where they build authentic relationships with their classmates. Now is the time to help our students “Fall into Friendship.” At Kikori, we know that when our students feel safe and connected, they are better able to learn! This month, we're excited to offer you a curated calendar of SEL activities designed to help your students build and celebrate meaningful friendships.
Why "Falling into Friendship" Matters
Friendship isn't just a pleasant part of growing up; it's a fundamental aspect of social and emotional development. Positive friendships can boost students' self-esteem, enhance their social skills, and provide essential support during both smooth and bumpy moments in life. With "Falling into Friendship" as our theme, we aim to empower your students with the skills and understanding they need to cultivate lasting, supportive relationships.
Our Calendar of SEL Activities
To kickstart this theme, we've assembled a diverse and engaging calendar of SEL activities for the entire month. These activities are thoughtfully designed to encourage empathy, effective communication, and collaboration. Here's a glimpse of what you can expect:
Weekly Learning Intentions:
Week 1: Caring
I can describe what makes a caring community.
Week 2: Openness
I can demonstrate openness by asking questions, helping and including others.
Week 3: Empathy & Kindness
I can practice empathy and kindness by reaching out to include others who may feel left out.
Week 4: Friendliness
I can take part in friendly interactions with all the students in my class.
Week 5: Understanding Exclusion
I can describe what it feels like to be excluded or bullied.
