Virtual Half-day Training | Building Community and Connection

Overview:

Restorative Practices is a tier 1 intervention that works to develop social-emotional capacity, build relationships and promote learning. This whole day training is designed for staff as an introduction to the principles and processes of Restorative practices (RP) and how RP creates, promotes and enhances positive culture. Participants will also receive training on the facilitation of various proactive circle types.

 

In this session participants will: 

  • Review Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) competencies. 
  • Reflect on the connection between restorative practices and social and emotional competencies. 
  • Integrate proactive practices into all aspects of daily life in the school.
  • Describe, experience and create proactive circles to develop relationships and community. 
  • Review and utilize tools for the implementation planning of proactive restorative practices interweaving social and emotional competencies. 

 

Featured Educator Presenter Bio:

Nikki Chamblee, Ph.D has been an educator for 20+ years. She is licensed in New York and Texas in the areas of English language arts, special education and English as a second language, as well as holding a license as a master social worker in both states. She has worked in family reunification for the Alameda County Child Protective Services in California and as an early intervention social worker for various agencies in New York. She moved to Texas and worked as an English teacher and restorative discipline coordinator for a disciplinary alternative school.

She continued her restorative practices journey by completing the level 2 state training in restorative discipline practices from the Texas Education Agency, a graduate certificate in restorative practices from the International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP) and a certificate in Restorative Justice Facilitation and Leadership. She served as Coordinator of Restorative Practices for two districts in Texas before becoming a full time instructor and implementation coach for IIRP. She is the founder of Best Southwest Restorative Practices Organization where she trains and coaches staff to implement relational principles and processes.
